Labrador Park Station

Sum Kee Food

A break from all the cafes to eat your good old zi char food! Another salted egg yolk dish to add on to the list. Tag your zi char buddies here:) 📍 : No. 2 Telok Blangah Street 31, Yeo's building 🚊: Labrador Park Station Exit A/Telok Blangah Station (8-10 min walk) 📷: Ultra Man Chicken - Medium (priced $18) 📝: This zi char is not your typical zi char where they take pride in the naming of their dishes! Like this ultra man chicken and another dish called bikini chicken. The fried chicken was tender and juicy inside with rich salted egg yolk taste. Not forgetting the crispy curry leaves which add fragrance and a little spiciness so that the salted egg yolk chicken does not become too jelak when you eat more of it. I would love it more if there was more salted egg yolk gravy so that I can pour them over the white rice. Do go with a bigger group of people so that you are able to try more dishes, after all that's what zi char is for:)

Haw Par Villa Station

Paddy Hills

A cafe with an all day chill ambience & good food:) What's best is both your food & OOTD can be assured that they will be Instagram-worthy HAHA 📍: 38 South Buona Vista Road 🚊: Haw Par Villa Station Exit A then take bus 200 and alight at the 3rd stop (Buona Vista Gardens) 📷: Tonkotsu Risotto (priced $25), Kimchi Fried Rice with steak (priced $20) and Garden By The Hills (priced $20) 📝: For the Tonkotsu risotto, the pork was tender and flavourful. The risotto was tasty and creamy and it was a good combination together with the quail egg and the crispies. I especially love the kimchi fried rice as the fried rice has our local zi char "wok-hei" smell aka slight burnt taste which was delicious with the steak and sous vide egg. Garden By The Hills was salad with quinoa, house cured salmon, pea and beetroot purée. The salad was light and refreshing but the price for that was a little steep for a salad. Do try their potato and fish as well as their cold pressed tea infused with seasonal fruits that will also give you a delightful food experience. Their berry ricotta hotcakes were slightly crisp and crumbly on the edges, and had a texture resembling that of pound cake on the inside. Paired with the assortment of berries and nuts etc., it was easily a dish both aesthetically and tastefully pleasant.

Kent Ridge Station

1. Waa Cow

*Wah Kao* another new good food place within the NUS campus! This time it's Japanese food😝 📍: Shaw Foundation Alumni House, 11 Kent Ridge Drive #01-03 🚊: Kent Ridge Station Exit A then take shuttle bus A1 and alight at AS7 and walk straight down. 📷: Signature Wagyu Beef Rice Bowl - Main size (priced $17.90- Public and $16.20-NUS), Chicken Tenderloin Rice Bowl - Main size (priced $13.90-Public and $12.60-NUS) and Sweet Soy Glazed Chicken Wings - Main size (priced $8.90-Public and $8.10-NUS) 📝: The torched rice is what sets Waa Cow apart from other Japanese restaurants that serve rice dons where you get to taste a little "chao ta" taste in your food. The Wagyu beef was tender and the 62 degree Celsius egg and egg roe went really well with the torched rice and beef. Oishii! I would love it more if there was more sauce on my rice as it became a little dry at the end. The chicken in the chicken tenderloin rice bowl was similar to those in the soy glazed wings. I found the batter special as it was twice fried and had 2 different crispy textures, making the chicken crispier and tastier. However, it was a little on the salty side. I especially like that there is no GST & service charge and there's 10% discount for all NUS students, staff and alumni so remember to ask your NUS friends along:) Definitely will be back again for good food session amidst mugging in school:)

2. Butter My Buns

Yay to having a cafe (by the same team behind Tiramisu Hero) right nestled within the school campus that makes mundane school days with long lectures and tutorials better:) 📍: 2 College Avenue West Stephen Riady Centre #01-07 University Town National University (Within Book Haven) 🚊: Kent Ridge Station Exit A then take shuttle bus D2 to University Town 📷: BMB Breakfast (priced $8.50 - sausage, Mac & Cheese priced at $3 each, portobello mushroom & smoked salmon priced at $2.50 each) and Honey Truffle Belgian Waffles (priced $12) 📝: I especially love the concept of the BMB breakfast as I can mix and match different ingredients to what I love on my plate:) It is also relatively pocket friendly for students since you are choosing your own ingredients instead of those standard breakfast sets in other cafes. For those truffle lovers, do try their honey truffle Belgian waffles served with soft serve! The waffles were fluffy and soft with distinguished truffle scent which they go really well with the slight salty milk ice cream and honey. The only regret was the food coma from sugar overload that came later during lectures😝

one-north Station

Two Wings @ Timbre+

It's going down, I'm yelling Timbre(+) ~ 📍: #01-30, 73A Ayer Rajah Crescent, JTC Launchpad @ one-north, Timbre+ 🚊: one-north Station Exit C (directions are on its website) 📷: Salted Egg Yolk wings & drumlets (6 pcs priced at $8.90) 📝: Drizzled with salted egg yolk sauce, the wings were thoroughly flavourful, with the savoury salted egg goodness that did not disappoint. We also tried the Heritage wings & drumlets (not in pic) that were crispy and juicy on their own, but do dip them in Two Wings' homemade traditional chicken rice-style chili sauce for a slightly tangy kick that will get you another piece because one just isn't enough😋🍗

Buona Vista Station

Head to our "Guide To Food Along East West MRT Line" under the section for Buona Vista Station:)

Holland Village Station

1. PARK

A good mac and cheese is not easy to find, and here we present to you one that has received many positive reviews! 📍: 281 Holland Ave #01-01 📷: Truffled Mac and Cheese (priced $12.80) 🚊: Holland Village Station Exit B (a short distance from the station) 📝: The mac and cheese was really cheesy and creamy, and the top layer was crispy. Truffle lovers will have another reason to try this because Park serves a truffle version of the mac and cheese. It was served piping hot, and the truffle aroma was really fragrant.

2. Full of Luck Club

Get lucky by heading to Full Of Luck Club 🀄 (by the same team behind the famous Cantonese Chinese restaurant Li Bai) so you can definitely be assured of good food & service:) 📍: 243 Holland Avenue 🚊: Holland Village Station Exit B 📷: Hokey-Pokey Ice Cream (priced $6) 📝: Hokey-Pokey Ice cream is not your conventional ice cream as the creamy honeycomb ice cream is served in a fried bao (Man Tou) with cocoa chips and toasted marshmallow:) Chewy, crunchy and sweet tastes triggering your tastebuds. The fried bao was fragrant and crispy which went really well with the ice cream but I would love it more if the fried bao was made warm to get the heaven & earth combination of hot & cold as we would prefer our ice cream a little melted:) What's cute was that the service staff would give you fortune cookies with your lucky number and a quote after making your payment HAHA. Anyway do try their Chinese craft beer and other dishes especially their specialty baos 😄

3. Mu Parlour

Holland Village houses many cafes, but this is one you may have missed out on because it is located at the second storey along the streets. Once inside, the space feels welcoming and its various furniture pieces, although mismatched, all fits in nicely in the interior of the cafe which has a classy look. 📍 : 16A Lorong Mambong 🚊: Holland Village Station 📷: After Eight (priced $18) 📝: After Eight was Baileys waffles with chocolate and mocha ice cream, and a side of espresso. The amount of espresso to be poured over the waffles is up to you, personally, we did not find the espresso + Baileys combination to be a strong or flavourful one. However, its other desserts proved to be more appealing, such as its passionfruit cheesecake and chocolate tart. Besides desserts, another Mu Parlour speciality is its signature black buns (charcoal burgers). We had the Mu Platter which gave us the choice of eight assorted mini burgers, buffalo wings, garlic fries and rocket salad. The burgers were done nicely and the ingredients within matched well with the charcoal buns. For non-spicy eaters, the buffalo wings may prove to sting/burn quite a fair bit, but it was definitely worth the spicy kick if you can take it! Overall, while the food at Mu Parlour can be slightly pricey, it is worth a trip especially for its desserts and charcoal burgers (it helps if you go with more people too - more items can be ordered to be shared!)

4. Pâtissez Singapore

Home of the original Freakshakes from Canberra is now in Singapore🎉 It's time to SHAKE your diet away with these Freakshakes🤘🏼 📍: 118 Holland Avenue #01-06 🚊: Holland Village Station Exit A 📷: Pretzella (priced $16), Mint Condition (priced $16), Earl Grey Lychee donut (priced $3.80) and Nutella donut (priced $3.80) 📝: Pretzella Freakshake is a combination of pretzels and nutella which had generous amounts of Nutella that will have all Nutella lovers go OMG Not to worry the Pretzella was not overly sweet. The salty pretzels together with the nutella made the shake a salty and sweet combination. Mint Condition Freakshake came with gooey chocolate fudge sauce, mint milk crumb, mint chocolate semifredo and chocolate cookie sandwich. The Mint Condition provided a refreshing taste to the milkshake, making the shake not too jelak. However, we would suggest to share the shakes with someone to share the calories because I could not even finish 1 shake by my own. The donuts were soft on the inside and had a generous amount of filling:) Our personal favourite was the Nutella donut as the earl grey lychee was a little weird to our tastebuds due to the lychee covering the earl grey taste so the flavour was neither here nor there. Will be back to try their mains the next time round!

5. Haakon

Is it time to be healthy? Haakon provides superfoods and juice that are real, natural food that are both delicious and good for the body and soul:) 📍: 118 Holland Avenue, #01-03 Raffles Holland V 🚊: Holland Village station Exit A 📷: Haakon's Classic Acai Bowl - Medium (priced $7.90) 📝: Haakon's Classic Acai Bowl contains organic acai blend that is topped with coconut flakes, banana, strawberries and blueberries. What differentiates Haakon from Project Acai and other stores that sell Acai blend, is that Haakon serves their Acai blend with generous amount of their freshly made chia parfait and granola which gave a crunchier texture. Overall, it was a perfect combination with the Acai blend😋 What's best is that the Acai bowl is antioxidant-rich and can help to boost your wellness and energy so what are you waiting for? Go get your Acai fix today at Haakon!!

6. Awfully Chocolate

Love Awfully Chocolate's Hei ice cream? Then you will probably love the plated desserts that are exclusive to Awfully Chocolate's HV outlet, which makes for a cozy spot to chill as well💆 📍: 40 Lorong Mambong 🚊: Holland Village Station Exit A 📷: Dark Chocolate S'more (priced $12++) 📝: The dark chocolate s'more consists of Awfully Chocolate's signature Hei ice cream that is encased by gooey marshmallow - the real treat is seeing the marshmallow cube being torched in front of you😁 we loved the contrasting tastes of the frozen ice cream and crispy texture of the melted marshmallow, however the amount of marshmallow got a little jelak towards the end, and we thought there could have been more of the Hei ice cream to complement the melted marshmallow better.

Botanic Gardens Station

Atlas Coffeehouse

ATLAST another new and minimalist cafe in the Bukit Timah neighbourhood! Atlas coffeehouse (same team behind Assembly Coffee) provides a down-to-earth and cozy ambience for you to chill your morning/afternoon away:) 📍: 6 Duke's Road 🚊: Botanic Gardens Station Exit A then take ~6-7 min walk to the cafe. Alternatively, you may take bus 67/156/170 from the bus stop at Botanic Gardens Station and alight just before Crown Centre. 📷: Creamy Mushrooms on Sourdough + scrambled eggs (priced $17), Salmon Soba Noodles (priced $18), ATLAS Butterscotch Banana Pancakes (priced $18.50) and cappuccino (priced $5) 📝: My personal favourite was the butterscotch banana pancakes as it was crispy on the edges and really fluffy, soft and moist on the inside. The portion of the pancakes was just nice but it would be good to share with 2-3 people so that can order other food too! Mushrooms lovers would love Atlas as most of their dishes have Shimeiji mushroom:) The salmon was a little dry but the yogurt sauce that came with it surprised me as I never thought salmon could go well with yogurt:) I especially love that there is no GST & service charge as cafe food can burn quite a big hole in our pockets.

Caldecott Station

Creamier

There are not many homemade ice cream shops but here's one worth the visit! An ice cream parlour that is nestled within the Toa Payoh neighbourhood, it prides itself on its handcrafted ice cream, and the waffles are definitely worth a try too! 📍 : 128 Toa Payoh Lorong 1 #01-835 🚊: Caldecott Station (their website has directions on how to get there) 📷: Waffles with ice cream (priced $8.50) - additional scoop of ice cream priced at $2.50, premium +$0.80. Ice cream flavours: Thai Milk Tea, Earl Grey Lavender, Sea Salt Gula Melaka. 📝: The waffles had crispy edges, and the center was soft and most, while fluffy. When paired with ice cream, the taste is absolutely yummy. The maple syrup and chocolate sauce worked well with the waffles as well. For those who have trouble deciding on their ice cream flavours, you can ask for samples before choosing. However, the seating is rather cramped, and as the cafe is small in size, it is quite difficult to move around, and you may need to squeeze or get up when someone walks past, especially if it is crowded.

Marymount Station

1. Pacamara Boutique Coffee Roasters

Probably you have heard or seen or gone to this cafe already but their food and place is worth to go back for another visit:) 📍 : 185 Upper Thomson Road 🚊: Marymount Station Exit A then take bus 410G 📷: Truffle Fries (priced $8), Ocean Mac & Cheese (priced $18.90) and Spaghetti Carbonara (priced $16.90) 📝: What I love was that for $8 the portion of truffle fries was generous with a lot of my favorite cheese. The combination of Parma ham, cream sauce and the fragrant mushroom made the perfect carbonara:) Cheese lovers would love the Mac & Cheese as it was baked well with lots of cheese inside! I recommend sharing these with a group of buddies so that you won't feel jelak:)

2. Sushiro

Japanese food can be both affordable and good over at Sushiro where they offer one of the cheapest Chirashi Don in town! Definitely making both your stomach and wallet happy:) 📍: 301 Upper Thomson Road, Thomson Plaza #01-113F 🚊: Marymount Station Exit A then take bus 410G and alight at the bus stop (Before Thomson Plaza) 📷: Bara-chirashi Don (priced $12.80) and Salmon Sushi Nigiri Set - 6 pcs (priced $9.80) 📝: The Bara-chirashi Don was DA-BOMB with a variety of assorted seafood cubes (salmon, octopus, prawn, tuna and salmon roe). The sashimi was really fresh and tasty with the slightly wet rice with fragrant sesame oil. The salmon sushi nigiri set was salmon nigiri, salmon aburi mayo and salmon mentai mayo. The salmon slices was tender and melted in our mouths. What's best is that there's no GST & service charge! Will definitely be back again for another OISHII experience😜

3. Nook & Cranny

Another minimalist cafe with white interior, wooden furnishings and white marbled tables that give a cosy ambience to have a good chill out with your friends:) 📍 : 9 Sin Ming Road #01-03 Thomson V One 🚊: Alight at Marymount Station then take bus 410G and alight outside Sin Ming Plaza. 📷: Japanese Matcha Latte - Hot (priced $6) 📝: I love that the matcha latte was smooth with a rich green tea aftertaste but it would be better if the matcha latte was made hotter as it was not really hot when it was served. Nook & Cranny (previously known as Five By Five) also serves ice cream where my personal favorite was their Thai green milk tea as the taste was strong and similar to the authentic Thai green milk tea drink that I had. Not to forget about their waffles that were fluffy inside and crispy on the outside. The mains were not as satisfying though but I will be back there again for their drinks and desserts:) What's best is that Nook & Cranny is open till 12 midnight on Fridays and Saturdays and 11pm on the other days so it is a good late night hangout place with your friends after meals!

Serangoon Station

Head to our "Guide To Food Along North East MRT Line" under the section for Serangoon Station:)

Tai Seng Station

Truly Test Kitchen

Truly cheap & good food here at Truly Test Kitchen!! 📍: 153 Kampong Ampat #07-05, Jun Jie Industrial Building 🚊: Tai Seng Station Exit B (10 min walk) 📷: Chicken & waffles (priced $4.50), Sambal chicken pasta (priced $3.50), Pork chop & vegetable curry rice (priced $3) and combination of yam, carrot & pumpkin kueh (priced $2) 📝: Truly Test Kitchen has made the combination of cheap & good food possible:) The yam, carrot & pumpkin kueh are all homemade and they are fragrant and crispy:) I especially love the thick curry gravy sauce that came with the curry rice. All the food portions are relatively bigger than outside so you can be assured that you will be fed well in the tummy & pocket! The shop owners are also very friendly and they even gave us an extra bowl of curry gravy even though we did not request for it 😄

Paya Lebar Station

Head to our "Guide To Food Along East West MRT Line" under the section for Paya Lebar Station:)

Dakota Station

Chin Mee Chin Confectionery

An old school confectionery selling your local breakfast favourites like kaya buns/toasts, soft boiled eggs, custard puffs and tarts. Definitely nostalgic! 📍: 204 East Coast Road 🚊: Dakota Station Exit A 🚌: After Exit A, walk towards bus stop at Blk 99 Old Airport Road (81181) and take bus 10/32 and alight at the bus stop opposite Holy Life Church. Cross the road at the traffic junction and spot the light blue building opposite and your destination is there. 📷: Kaya Bun (priced $1.00) 📝: The Kaya Buns were made upon ordering and the soft fluffy buns matched well with the egginess of the kaya and melted butter. All of their pastries are also made on the spot so you can be assured of the freshness.

Nicoll Highway Station

1. 75 Ah Balling

Here are some good rice balls (Tang Yuan) to get our tummies rolling ~ Apart from the usual cafe food that we post, we realized we have not introduced any local hawker food yet so here's one to get started! 📍: 505 Beach Road, Golden Mile Food Centre #01-75 🚊: Nicoll Highway Station Exit A 📷: 4 pcs tang yuan in peanut soup (priced $2) 📝: Ah Balling has more than 60 years of history in making glutinous rice balls. Their Tang Yuan brings a sense of nostalgia and comfort to the heart🙆🏻 There are 4 different types of soup you can choose from, peanut, longan, ginger and almond. My peanut soup was fragrant and had a generous amount of peanuts and it was a great combination with those rice balls. What I like best was that I can mix and match the rice balls so I can get to try their different flavours. I chose peanut, sesame, yam and matcha rice balls. The only regret was that the red bean rice balls got sold out:( The rice balls all had a soft but yet QQ tangy texture and were not overly sweet. My personal favourite was the handmade matcha rice balls as the matcha flavour surprisingly was relatively thick and distinct👍🏽 If you do not fancy Tang Yuan, you can order their soups only at $1.40 each! Definitely a cheap and good dessert to have after your meals or just to satisfy your sweet tooth cravings 😋

2. Diandin Leluk

Sawadeeka 🙏🏼 Nestled inside the Golden Mile Complex which is the "little Thailand" in Singapore, Diandin Leluk serves authentic and affordable Thai food to satisfy your cravings without the need to go to Thailand 😋 📍: 500 Beach Road, Golden Mile Complex #01-67/68/69 🚊: Nicoll Highway Station Exit A 📷: Omelette Phat Thai (priced $7), Pineapple Rice (priced $6), Clear Tom Yum soup - small (priced $12), Lemon Grass drink (priced $1.80), Thai Iced Tea (priced $1.80) 📝: My personal favourite was the omelette Phat Thai. The omelette was fragrant and it went really well with the slightly sweet Phat Thai noodles. The clear tom yum soup was also good as it left a refreshing aftertaste and the spiciness level was just right:) The Thai Iced Tea had a rich and distinct tea taste that tasted similar to the ones I drank in Bangkok. What's best is that the drinks are relatively cheaper than outside so that it does not burn a hole in your pocket when you want to satisfy your Thai food cravings 😉✌🏼

Esplanade Station

1. Wolf Burgers (inside Pasarbella at Suntec City)

Pasarbella, the next hipster food place for you and your friends to have your TGIF and wkend chill out:) 📍: 3 Temasek Blvd, Suntec City #01-455 🚊: Esplanade Station Exit A/City Hall Exit C and walk via City Link to Suntec City 📷: S'mores Fries (priced $8) by Wolf Burgers 📝: Imagine toasted melted marshmallow with crispy fragrant sweet potato fries combi...Mmmm your calories are probably screaming:) The fries were also drizzled with honey and came with honeycomb/cereal bits. I would love the fries more if it was more towards the savory and saltier side as it was a little too sweet. Do try their highly raved burgers as well!

2. Vatos Urban Tacos

A Mexican fusion restaurant from Seoul - get ready for some Korean-Mexican fusion dishes 😋 📍: 36 Beach Road, South Beach Quarter 🚊: Esplanade Station Exit F/City Hall Station Exit A 📷: Kimchi Carnitas Fries (priced $16) 📝: The well-seasoned shoestring fries were topped with a variety of ingredients such as braised pork carnitas, sautéed kimchi, melted cheese, chopped onions, and drizzled with sour cream and Vatos hot sauce. The two sauces mixed together were not too overly spicy, which is good news for people who cannot take food that is too spicy! Its urban tacos such as the Chili Lime Prawns were delicious too, and the tortillas had a moist and slightly chewy taste (not tasting dry or too flaky)

Bras Brasah Station

Boulangerie Asanoya

A Japanese bakery that serves up various breads and pastries. There are also take-home products available for purchase at the cafe, such as its home-made asanoya garlic butter. 📍: 15 Queen Street #01-03 🚊: Bras Basah Station Exit A 📷: (top) Taru-Taru Fish Sandwich set lunch; (bottom left) French Potato Bread and Curry Donut; (bottom right) Tiramisu Cube and Maple Walnut - total cost was ~$20 to $30 📝: What I really liked was the Tea Bread (not in picture). It had a soft and delectable taste, and the smell of Earl Grey tea leaves which was infused in the bread was really fragrant.

Dhoby Ghaut Station

Head to our "Guide To Food Along North East MRT Line" under the section for Dhoby Ghaut Station:)

Bayfront Station

TWG Tea Salon

TWG Tea offers unique tea-infused macarons, which is a pleasant difference from the usual flavours that macarons come in. 📍: The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, 2 Bayfront Avenue, B2-89/89A (TWG Tea has other outlets in Singapore as well, including ION Orchard, but the one I got mine from was at MBS) 🚊: Bayfront Station Exit C/D 📷: Box of 12 (priced $24 - each piece is $2) 📝: The macaron shells were rather crisp on the outside, but not to the extent that it breaks into pieces once you bite into it, and the inside is both moist and a little chewy. I especially like the Napoleon Tea & Caramel, as well as the Earl Grey Fortune & Chocolate. The macarons are not overly sweet, and make for a good dessert choice, especially with its affordable pricing of $2 per piece.

With Love,
